The Cowboy Channel is a cable TV channel owned by the Rural Media Group that focuses on Western sports and rodeo events. It was launched in 1979 as the National Christian Network and was later renamed a few times. The Cowboy Channel has signed a multi-year agreement with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and streams major events from their service, so you can watch the National Finals Rodeo on the Cowboy Channel. Most of the shows that stream on the Cowboy Channel come from RFD TV.
The Cowboy Channel airs a lot of non-sports programming that comes from RFD-TV’s library. This programming includes shows about ranching and rodeo (which is why the Cowboy Channel doesn’t carry RFD-TV’s music, agribusiness or news programming). Like RFD-TV, the Cowboy Channel also airs televangelism programming on Sunday mornings.

The Cowboy Channel offers two different subscription plans for its viewers:
The Cowboy Channel is the only network that provides comprehensive coverage of rodeo and Western sports, as well as content related to the Western lifestyle. When live events aren’t being aired, The Cowboy Channel airs series from its sister-channel RFD-TV that focus on topics like equine, ranching, and rodeo. However, it doesn’t show any news, agribusiness, or music content.
There are also, of course, classic cowboy shows like The Roy Rogers Show and The Lone Ranger. Like RFD-TV, it also airs early morning/ Sunday televangelism. Some of the programs you can find on the website include:
Debbe Dunning’s Dude Ranch Round-Up: Debbe Dunning, best known for playing Heidi the “Tool Time” girl on Home Improvement, is an avid traveler who loves to visit dude ranches all over the United States.
Gentle Giants: Equestrian champions Pam Minick and Kadee Coffman showcase the beauty and strength of draft horses across America with breeds such as Clydesdales and Belgians. These gentle giants are known for their calm demeanor and willingness to work, making them a popular choice for many riders. Whether you’re looking for a hiking buddy or a loyal workhorse, a draft horse is the perfect companion.
ProRodeo Tonight: Described as the SportsCenter of rodeo.
RanchHer: Series spotlighting the personal and professional lives of women in ranching.
Western Sports Roundup: Steven Kenyon, Amy Wilson, and Janie Johnson bring you the latest news in Western sports. You’ll hear results recaps, interviews, live clips, and detailed analysis of barrel racing, cutting, reining, team roping and more. Plus, you’ll get announcements on upcoming events. Tune in weekday evenings (simulcast on Rural Radio 147).
